We are looking for Paid Youth Workers

You will need the minimum of a Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work Practice (or equivalent qualification) and have experience of working with those who have special needs. 

We need one person to work 9.30am-12.30pm on both the first and third Saturday morning of each month and one person to work 9.30am-12.30pm on the first Saturday morning of each month

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Youth Support Worker
Organisation: Hipp!!Bones
Reports to: Youth Support Worker in Charge

Main job purpose

  • To contribute towards the provision of the highest standard of youth work for young people and vulnerable adults with additional needs and disabilities aged 11–25 years.
  • To help develop their skills and capabilities through the facilitation of appropriate programmes and activities.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Maintaining professional relationships with parents, carers and guardians.
  • Helping members to increase their social and personal development through planned programmes of activities, services and facilities.
  • Ensuring that both written and verbal communication is of a professional standard and respects the rights and dignity of the members.
  • Assisting with the planning, delivery and evaluation of the services provided.
  • Supporting members during episodes of challenging behaviour in line with their individual behaviour support plans and risk assessments. This may include verbal support, gestural support or ‘Team Teach’ physical interventions.
  • Assisting members with intimate care needs, as agreed in their intimate care plan. This may range from physical, verbal and/or gestural support.
  • Managing members’ ongoing medical needs, e.g. seizure management and administration of rescue medication. 
  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of service users; escalating all safeguarding concerns efficiently and effectively to the Youth Worker in Charge (Designated Safeguarding Lead) and Safeguarding Deputy.
  • Maintaining confidentiality for all areas of the organisation, including members, their families, other paid staff and volunteers.
  • Assisting with the collection and recording of money.
  • Assisting with the recording of membership and attendance, outcomes and achievements.
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required.

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum of Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work Practice (ideally including the optional group ‘Supporting Young People with Disabilities and Additional Learning Needs within a Youth Work Setting’) or equivalent qualification
  • Ability to communicate with young people both verbally and using various methods of augmentative communication.
